Gallery Artists / Joan Bohn
|
While her artistic career has been relatively brief, she has accumulated impressive recognition. In reflection over finding her voice in art, Joan muses that "there is an inherent need to document who we are by preserving things we hold dear . . . Collecting things that we eventually leave behind: our 'mark', our memories that become little pieces with great presence." Elusive yet tangible, quite yet powerful, her paintings posses a restrained elegance and sense of mystery, provoking an intellectual as well as emotional response. This dichotomy is paramount in her work. "For me a painting must spark curiosity, engaging, pleasing, while describing the journey I have taken with it. My painting are about history, my own personal history, and the history of the painting itself. The interpretation will arise from the viewer's own memory and experiences." |
